Grooming Styles Explained

  • Bath & Tidy

    Bath, blow dry, nail trim, ear cleaning, sanitary trim (groin and bum), feet and featherings trim, plus eye and face tidy.

  • Kennel Cut

    A short, uniform all-over trim — typically ¼" to 1/16". Practical and low-maintenance. Shorter lengths are only used for extreme matting with no alternative.

  • Teddy Bear Cut

    Same length all over including the face, with rounded feet and head. Fluffy and plush. Length adjustable to owner preference while keeping the soft, rounded look.

  • Lamb Cut

    A classic rounded silhouette with a longer body and shorter legs. Can be adjusted in length while maintaining the signature fluffy, lamb-like appearance.

With 40+ years of experience, Michelle has dedicated her career to caring for animals. She began by working at her parents' kennel and went on to hold positions at various grooming and animal care facilities, eventually securing her dream job at the 9th Ave Animal Clinic in 1981.

At the clinic, she gained deep knowledge in all aspects of animal health — including identifying potential health issues and spotting pests like fleas, lice, and ticks early. Her decades-long commitment to the field is what sets the standard of care at PAWS.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up

  • Arrive no more than 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment (unless you have booked a Spa & Play)
  • We'll call you 15–30 minutes before your dog is ready
  • Pick up within 1 hour of the call
  • $25 kennel fee applies for pick-ups more than 1 hour after the call

Cancellation Policy

  • Minimum 24 hours notice required to cancel or reschedule
  • Call us directly at (403) 984-9247 for all appointment changes

First missed or forgotten appointment: $25 charge. Second and subsequent: full service fee required before re-booking.

How often should a dog be professionally groomed?
Most dogs benefit from professional grooming every 4–8 weeks, depending on breed, coat type, and activity level. Dogs with fast-growing or mat-prone coats — like Doodles and Poodles — typically need grooming every 4–6 weeks to stay manageable.
What is the difference between a kennel cut and a teddy bear cut?
A kennel cut is a short, uniform all-over trim — practical and low-maintenance, typically ¼" or shorter. A teddy bear cut keeps more hair especially on the face, for a fluffy, rounded-sm look. The teddy bear requires more maintenance between grooms but gives a distinctly softer appearance.
Do groomers bathe or cut first?
We bathe first, then cut and style. A clean coat is easier to work with and gives a better result — this is standard professional practice.
What dog breeds should not be shaved?
Double-coated breeds — including Huskies, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Border Collies, and Pomeranians — should generally not be shaved. Their double coat insulates against both heat and cold, and shaving can disrupt coat regrowth and increase sunburn risk. We'll advise you on the best approach for your specific breed.
Can I use human clippers on my dog?
No. Dog hair and human hair have different textures and growth patterns. Professional dog clippers are designed specifically for animal coats. Using human clippers risks an uneven cut and can pull or irritate the skin.
